Yesterday, Mary and I painted these cups. I completed and then wiped off the first go. Mary gave me a piece of unprimed birch plywood to paint on, to experiment with the underlying wood grain and colour that comes through. It is different and would be interesting for landscape. I like what the grain of the wood adds here. I'm curious, is the wood gessoed first?
Hi Lori,
the wood is pure birch plywood, not gessoed, and I just went ahead and painted right on it. It seemed to soak up some of the paint which only added more to the interesting texture.
